Thu, 3 Jul 2008 22:47:06 EST http://rugercollectorsassociation.com/classifieds/detail.php?id=23 Memorabilia : Ruger long gun leather rifle cases http://rugercollectorsassociation.com/classifieds/detail.php?id=21 I have recently acquired a number of these Ruger long gun leather zip-up cases and am offering some of them for sale. Here is the history behind them: These cases were purchased from Sile Distributors in 1998. At that time, Dominick DeRobertis, Jr., the owner, explained that Tom Ruger provided the design concept and ordered these cases from Sile around 1980. The fabric was proprietary and Sile contracted for it to be manufactured in England. The cases themselves were were manufactured in Italy. It is estimated that there were probaly less than 200 made total. There are long rifle cases, long rifle cases with scope and short rifle cases. The scoped rifle cases seem to be the rarest of the three rifle cases. Briefcases were made especially for a few of the Ruger executives as gifts. There was also a small quantity of pistol cases made. When the cases were delivered, Mr. Ruger had them sent back and cancelled the purchase order since he had ordered some cases from another manufacturer and wanted to use the ones he ordered. DeRobertis was told he could just sell these prototype cases to recover his costs. The cases were purchased from Sile about 10 years ago and have been in storage since then. There are a few of the briefcases around with Tom Ruger's personal briefcase being in a private collection - the interior is lined with soft pig skin. There is a picture of one of the briefcases on page 236 of RL Wilson's "Ruger and His Guns". It belonged to Jack Behn (now retired Purchasing Agent for Ruger). The story goes that he used to load it with goodies and bring it to the NRA shows specifically to extract hard earned funds from Ruger collectors :-D Its present location is unknown, it probably went with his low number collection of # 95. _______________________________ At this time, I only have a number of the long rifle cases and the short rifle cases. The long rifle cases measure 51" long and the short rifle cases measure 40" long. They are lined with sheep-skin and are very nice, high quality cases. Asking $50 per case, plus shipping. I figure shipping sould be ~$7 for the first case, $3 for each additional. Each case will come folded up in its own plastic protective bag. I will include a letter from John Dougan explaining and authenticating the provenance of the cases with each purchase. Payment by USPS Money Order, certified funds, or PayPal (+3% to cover for their fees). Feel free to email with any questions. Thanks for looking!
