Howdy folks! Ruger Collector # 9142 here. I am new to the wire... please forgive me as I feel my way around. It seems I have read somewhere, maybe in the 'Journals', that Ruger serial numbers that begin with a star are duplicate or replacement numbers. Is that correct? If so does it hold true for single sixes in .32 cal also?? Any info greatly appreciated. If you know where that was printed it would be nice to know. I could not find it in Wilson's Big Red Book. Thank you................

Welcome aboard, glad to have you with the RCA. Please feel free to post any questions, comments, etc. that you have.....we love to talk Rugers!!

The "star" on Single-Sixes is found in front of the trigger guard underneath the cylinder frame. It designates that the Single-Six was shipped with the .22 Caliber cylinder only, as a single cylinder gun, without the Magnum cylinder. The "star" would not be found on a Single-Six .32 H&R Magnum since those guns are only shipped with a single cylinder.

If you have a Single-Six .32 H&R Magnum that looks like it has a "star" in front of the serial number, I suggest that you look at the mark under a loop. It may be an " * " ( asterisk ) which means an entirely different thing.

Hope that this helps, if not let us know.

Regards, Bill

Whoa! An asterisks mean something totally different?? Howdy Bill, thanks for the welcome and the info! But don't leave me in suspense! I do not have the revolver here, so I cannot check it that closely. But if it is an asterisks...............what does that mean?? Thanks again...........Ralph

An asterisks means that it was shipped from Ruger as a "Used" gun. Most likely one used by the company in trade shows like the NRA Annual Meeting, the SHOT show, etc. Or it could have been shipped and returned for some other reason, inspected and then shipped the second time.

Let me know what your gun has when you get a look at it.

Howdy! I still do not have possession of the little Vaqerito yet....but in the photos the "star" actually looks like an 'X'.....so it could be an asterisk. The serial number is 650-37129 and she is a blue w/case color, 4 5/8" barrel birds head w/ black grips. Is this going to be something I should leave as is????? I have GREAT plans for her that include a bit of alteration!!!!......Ralph

Ralph, let us know when you get it in your hands. If the mark is in front of the serial number I'll bet on it being an * . You may not want to alter that one, hold on to it and get another to mess with. According to the Red Eagle News Exchange there are very few of these known, rare little guns.

That is not what I wanted to hear!! I am on my way to my dealer to pay for the revolver now....should have it in a week or so I would think. Has taken me a while to find a Blue/bird head, Vaquerito, that would sell to the Peoples Republic of California!! These guys that won't sell to California because of the Politicos are playing right into their hands!! They are accomplishing EXACTLY what the Politicos want! The reduction of legal firearms in our state! If it is legal to buy/ posses here...they should be glad to sell here. Ah....but I digress. If indeed it turns out to be a keeper so be it. It will just have to live with my commemorative Ruger Pistols in the safe. After all I am always looking for a reason to purchase another! I appreciate the information...regret that I did not sign up here much sooner! I come up w/Ruger question every once in a while......and what a GREAT way to get answers!!
When I have time I have a .44 semi-auto carbine to investigate, my second Ruger a 1970 era M77(purchased in 1970) and can always lament the .44 Flat top from 1966 that I let go when I went to Nam, etc., etc.. Be back soon..........Ralph

Ralph, not to worry, got you covered. I happen to have a Blue/Case .32 Birdshead that I will sell you and ship her right into the heart of CA. Lets discuss the details off line, send me a PM if interested.
