I have Ruger Standard serial number 286952 and I need the exact year of manufacture, which I understand would be in Dougan's book. The numbers on Rugers website are not exact manufacture years, and I need the exact year. Can anyone with Dougan's book help me out? Thanks.

The Ruger site shows that #276308 started off 1965 & #406470 started off 1966 so 1965 would be a good guess. There is no specific chart in the Dougan book. Chad Hiddleson's Encyclopedia of Ruger Semi Automatic Rimfire Pistols 1949-1992 shows it in a block of RST6 pistols... Hope this helps

The problem is I'm planning on having it shipped to a C&R FFL, so I need to be sure it is from 1964. http://imgur.com/amftrXM

That chart is from John Dougan's book so I would say it's good. Maybe Ruger could provide specific information if you contacted them. There are others on here that know a whole lot more than I do about Ruger pistols.

I'm not sure how DOugan got conflicting information, but I have to go with what Ruger tells me.

I would not depend on a partial chart with no heading from a unknown book. John Dougan has published 5 books on Rugers.

Also date made and date shipped are two different things. Ruger letters in the past told you the model, caliber, date manufactured, and date shipped. All of the charts produced by people like Dougan, Finley, and Hiddleson to name a few of the best are to be used as a general rule with confirmation by Ruger. Dougan's lists concentrate on revolvers. He often uses and gives credit to Don Finley's work. Hiddleson's Reference of Ruger Firearms Second Edition is the best to use for all Rugers.

Watertender's starting # agrees with Hiddleson's reference and Ruger both indicating 1965.

Now I know where that partial chart came from; Its Ruger Revolvers the Second Generation 1962-1973! That Dougan book does NOT pertain to Ruger autos.

Bit confused here, are you trying to ship to a C&R or a FFL, if it's a FFL hate to sound like Hillary but what difference does it make?
