I have a 10-22, maple stock, barrel tapped for a pistol scope, with a medallion inset on the side of the stock that is an engraving of ""chief AJ"" with serial # 00 out of 100 made. It also has little brass pins on the front of the stock for grips. My father purchased this rifle at a gun show, from the chief, 20 years ago. It was shortly after he set a world record for shooting with 10-22 s.Now it's mine. My question is ""did ruger do this or did the chief take it upon himself and do it?"" What is this rifle worth, unfired?

I believe you have one of the Chief's modifications. I met him in Louisville, KY at an RCA Display show years ago, he was sure entertaining and a colorful character!! There is probably a following for the Chief AJ guns but I do not have any idea what to but on it as a value. Hopefully someone else will come along to help you out.

    Hi
It sound like you have the Indian Scout model. I would think that yours would have been the proof model seeing that it is the 00 out of 100. Value is hard to pin down on these seeing I don't know any collectors for them. I would have to say around $450-$500 with the modifications he did to them.

Hey I bought a CHIEF AJ 30th ANNIVERSARY 10/22 from the man himself at the Cleveland OGCA show in 1994.....he sure was something else.....I used a CC to pay and he just took a pen and rubbed the card against the receipt....he then tore up the extra copies and threw them into the air like confetti....I asked about needing to do paper work and he said ""BOY I'M an INJUN....THEY CAN' T MAKE ME DO NOTHIN""......I have 2 10/22's with the CHIEF AJ roll mark.....the ""30th"" gun the chief made.....and I think a ""white feather"" also....he certainly was entertaining....anyone have an extra one of the wood blocks the Chief shot ???? RR.
